Use this easy decorating method to make a batch of your favorite sugar cookies into something extra special!

Ingredients

1 recipe Sugar cookie dough
6 drops Food coloring (in 3 or 4 different colors)
1/4 cup Colored sugar in each of your food-coloring colors

Instructions
Separate cookie dough into 4 equal portions. Tint each portion a different color (leave one untinted if desired).

Roll dough portions into 1/2-1 inch diameter ropes of equal lengths. Cut ropes in half. Stack the cut ropes, alternating colors, to form a log. Twist the stacked pieces together to belnd colors. Gently roll and stretch dough slightly to press colors together. Wrap dough in waxed paper or plastic wrap and refrigerate or freeze until firm, about 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 375°. Grease baking sheets.

Pour colored sugars into strips on a plate. (I usually use each color of sugar twice to make a wider area for rolling). Slice the cookie log into 1/4 inch thick slices. Roll slices across sugars, pressing firmly so sugar adheres to the edge of the cookie.

Arrange on baking sheets and bake until lightly golden, 8-10 minutes. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before removing to a wire rack.
