A Little More Summer Fun

Posted by Michelle on August 12, 2011 in Katya, Nathan, Projects |

Wow, our summer has flown!  School starts in just over a week, but we’ll try to squeeze in a few more fun things before that happens.  Here are a few we did recently…

…turned a cancelled swimming pool day into a fun backyard water day.  I even gave up naptime on the condition that the kids get along and stay outside!  They happily complied, using our toddler slide and the wading pool to make a water slide, sitting in their lawn chairs in the water, and blowing tons of bubble snakes.  (Check this post here from 2009 to see how to make a bubble snake, and to see photos of my kids when they were so much younger!)

…excavated objects from ice (inspired by this blog here).  We’ve done this before and it turned out to be fun again, although at first Katya was very frustrated about not being able to reclaim the treasures immediately!  After she got a few out, however, she enjoyed banging away on her ice block and Nathan had fun experimenting with different tools I provided.

…used some art supplies that our backyard neighbors were getting rid of to make sparkly glitter pictures.  Had to use up that old glitter glue before it completely dried up!  Even mom got to make one.

…spent a morning at nearby Bear Creek park.  Nathan loved the splash fountain, Katya enjoyed watching more than getting wet, and we ended up staying much longer than planned because there was a friendly mom with kids of similar ages to play with.
